What we do

Have a question about intercountry adoption? Just ask us! We'll tell you about our adoption programmes and we're happy to help with general intercountry adoption questions.

Information Service

We believe all children deserve to be raised in a caring, nurturing family where they have opportunities to develop their full potential. Our goal is to help families adopt children from overseas orphanages with minimal stress for all concerned.

We facilitate the complex process of inter-country adoption. Intercountry adoption involves a lot of organisation and legal work, often a formal court hearing, with all communication and legal documents in another culture and/or language. ICANZ provides an effective, efficient and safe path through this maze.

Adoption Placement Services

Adoption is forever, so ICANZ staff are available to help families who adopted via ICANZ, through the years long after their children arrive home.

Parent Network - a voluntary team of ICANZ parents run a nationwide support network to link adopted children and their families.

Search and Heritage Visits- we offer advice on searching for birth families or siblings or traveling to a child’s birth country. We provide advice on NZ citizenship for adopted children, for renewing passports for adopted children and visas for trips back.

Magazine - we publish the ICANZ Magazine twice a year (since 1991) to keep parents up-to-date on issues relevant to inter-country adopted children (soon to be free online to all ICANZ adoptive families)
